What documents are required when applying to connect a BESS to a generation source connected to the grid?

Connecting a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to a generation source requires additional technical documentation describing the operating characteristics and parameters of the energy storage system.

• Applicant’s details
• Document confirming legal title to the land – lease agreement and Land and Mortgage Register (Land Registry) number, or the Land and Mortgage Register number
• Site development plan on a topographic map indicating the proposed installation location
• Excerpt and map from the Local Spatial Development Plan or a Zoning Decision (Decision on Land Development Conditions)
• Selected equipment – manufacturer, model, power rating, quantity, together with technical datasheets and harmonic/power quality charts (or proposed by NEZE)
• Power of Attorney (if the application is submitted by NEZE on the applicant’s behalf)
• Single-line electrical diagram (or prepared by NEZE)
• Expected date of commencement of electricity supply/consumption
• Bank account number and bank name (for payment of any required advance fee)
• Planned commissioning date and expected end of operation of the energy storage system
• Additionally, for the selected energy storage equipment:
  • Technical datasheet specifying the maximum DC charging and discharging power of the storage unit
  • Fault Ride-Through (FRT) capability characteristics demonstrating the ability of the complete energy storage system to remain operational during voltage disturbances
  • Charging and discharging efficiency characteristics, including performance under varying ambient temperatures
  • P-Q capability curve showing the available active and reactive power range during both charging and discharging at the point of connection
  • Technical documentation describing power quality disturbances introduced by the energy storage system and its load characteristics
• Proof of payment of the application fee
